Multiaccess in All-optical Networks with Wavelength and Code Concurrency 1 2

چکیده

A major obstacle in realizing fast packet switching in all-optical networks is the large tuning delays of tunable optical devices. This paper proposes a multiaccess scheme for all-optical local area networks which employs both wavelength and code concurrency. In this scheme, several users share a wavelength channel through code multiplexing. The delay performance of hybrid wavelength/code division multiaccess is obtained under a simple, suboptimal access protocol based on cyclic search. Due to the reduction in the number of wavelength channels without an associated reduction in transmission concurrency, hybrid multiaccess is robust against tuning delays. At a given network throughput, the hybrid scheme achieves considerably lower delays than that of Wavelength Division Multiple Access even with a small amount of code concurrency. Conversely, the hybrid network can support a higher load when there is a maximum allowable value for the average packet delay.

A Novel Protection Guaranteed, Quality of Transmission Aware Routing and Wavelength Assignment Algorithm for All-optical Networks

Transparent All Optical Networks carry huge traffic and any link failure can cause the loss of gigabits of data; hence protection and its guarantee becomes necessary at the time of failure. Many protection schemes were presented in the literature, but none of them speaks about protection guarantee. Also, in all optical networks, due to absence of  regeneration capabilities, the physical layer i...

Design, performance and wavelength assignment of a wavelength division multiaccess protocol for optical fibre ring networks

This paper presents a multiaccess strategy for use over optical fibre ring networks employing two counter rotating rings, and using wavelength division multiplexing. Transmitters employ tunable lasers, while receivers employ one or more fixed wavelength filters. The paper introduces an algorithm for the optimal assignment of the receivers to the channels, such that the possibility of finding an...

A Collision-Free MAC Protocol for Optical Star LANs

A new multiple access protocol is developed for optical local area networks based on a passive star topology. The protocol uses wavelength division multiplexing (WDM), and combines the advantages of both random-access and scheduled-access sharing schemes, e.g., fixed pre-assigned TDMA and WDM, into a protocol that is highly bandwidth-efficient. No central control is required among users, and th...

Analysis of MAC Protocols with Correlation Receiver for OCDMA Networks - Part II

In this paper optical code-division multiple-access (OCDMA) packet network is considered, which offers inherent security in the access networks. Two types of random access protocols are proposed for packet transmission. In protocol 1, all distinct codes and in protocol 2, distinct codes as well as shifted versions of all these codes are used. O-CDMA network performance using optical orthogonal ...
